Eddie graduated from college with a degree in BS Management Engineering. He began his work career in banking in 1978 as a management trainee with an investment house owned by RCBC, China Bank and three large Japanese financial institutions. He rose from the ranks as he gained experience in the different areas of banking such as credit, money market, and corporate banking. He joined RCBC in 1988 to head the Specialized Lending Unit (SLU) that handled loans to small and medium-scale enterprises through the wholesale lending windows of the then Central Bank of the Philippines, Development Bank of the Philippines, and Landbank of the Philippines. He also handled syndicated term loans for the broadcast media, construction of power plants, toll highways, and a petrochemical plant. In 1995, Eddie was recruited by HSBC to head their Project Finance Department which handled the wholesale lending portfolio. At HSBC, he also did structured trade finance deals, corporate banking, and correspondent banking with local banks. Eddie resigned from HSBC to set up a sales and trading business 2002. In 2004, he became executive director of a foundation based in Makati that took care of street children. As executive director of the foundation, he networked with large corporations to accept the older children of the foundation as interns during summer to expose the children to the work environment. This is preparation for life outside the foundation. He also worked to grow the local donor pool of the foundation. In 2006, Eddie rejoined the banking industry and was hired by Asia United Bank (AUB) to set up their Wholesale Lending Department. He handled several large projects including the initial negotiations for the funding of the AUB’s new head office in Ortigas Center. Eddie retired from banking in 2011. He now works on an agricultural project on the island of Palawan. The project involves helping farmers establish their own 1-2 hectare farms so that they can develop a more stable source of income by diversifying their sources of livelihood. The project acts as the buyer of products made by the farmers. He and his spouse also established their own 30 hectare rubber farm. When the opportunity was presented to him to join the LINK Business Brokerage team, he saw an opportunity to use the investment and commercial banking skills he had acquired during his banking career. He accepted the challenge with the view of providing business owners the option to expand, diversify or sell their business.
